The Ghana Police Service has made an arrest in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two people at the NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Accra. On October 31, 2026, the police announced that they had taken a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, into custody. According to the police, Mumuni is alleged to have played a role in the killing of George Atuguba, 57, and his niece, Irene Atuguba, 47.

The incident occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, when officers from the Sakumono District Police Command were dispatched to a house at the NTHC Estate after receiving information about the shooting. Upon arrival, the officers found the bodies of George Atuguba and his niece lying in pools of blood. The two victims were rushed to hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies were subsequently deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the killings may have resulted from a financial dispute between the principal suspect, Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, and George Atuguba. According to the police, George Atuguba had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but failed to repay the money. Osei Anto reportedly visited the victims' residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by Mumuni, to demand repayment.

A misunderstanding allegedly ensued, during which Osei Anto reportedly shot and killed the two victims. The police have declared Osei Anto wanted and appealed to the public to assist in his arrest. In a statement announcing the arrest on October 31, 2026, the police urged anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191 or 18555.

The Baatsona Divisional Police Command is handling investigations into the case. The police have also offered a GH¢100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Osei Anto. The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of gun violence and the need for swift action to bring perpetrators to justice.

The police statement was signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng. The police have assured the public that they are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served in this case. The community has been urged to remain calm and to cooperate with the police in their investigations.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for peaceful resolution of disputes and the consequences of resorting to violence. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the lives of citizens. The public is urged to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect and bring closure to the family of the victims.
