The Ghana Police Service's Traffitech-GH automated enforcement system is now operational, issuing Electronic Notice of Violation via SMS to motorists who commit traffic offences. To verify the authenticity of the message, offenders are advised to check the Sender ID, which must read GPS-MTTD. The message contains essential details, including a Ticket Number, location, date, and time of the offence, vehicle registration number, offence description, payment amount, and payment deadline.
Motorists are warned to be cautious of scam messages from unknown sender IDs or those containing clickable links. They are advised not to act on such messages to avoid falling prey to scams. The Ghana Police Service has provided various channels for motorists to pay their fines, including an official portal at www.ghana.gov.gh, mobile money on MTN, Telecel, or AirtelTigo, or via a debit or credit card. Alternatively, offenders can dial the USSD shortcode *710*0# to complete the payment.
Motorists have 14 days from the issuance date to settle their fines. Failure to pay within the 14-day window will result in a late payment penalty of 1 per cent of the original fine for each day of default. Additionally, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority will not renew a driver's licence or process vehicle registration, transfer, or roadworthiness inspections until all outstanding Traffitech-GH fines are cleared.
To avoid inconvenience at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, motorists are advised to check for any outstanding fines by dialling *220# before visiting DVLA offices. This will enable them to clear any outstanding fines and avoid delays. The Traffitech-GH system is designed to improve road safety and reduce traffic offences in Ghana.
Motorists who believe they have been wrongly fined can contest the violation online within 14 days of the issuance date. The process begins by reviewing the evidence at https://traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, where the offender enters their Ticket Number and selects the option to view the photo or video evidence and other violation data.
If a motorist decides to contest the violation, they must start the contest procedure online, selecting their preferred MTTD regional police station and date. An officer will contact the motorist to arrange an appointment, after which a court hearing will be scheduled. Offenders must bring their ENV reference number and a valid form of identification to the hearing.
For those without internet access, evidence can be viewed by calling the Traffitech-GH Call Centre on 059 692 2402. Suspicious messages or requests for payment to personal mobile money accounts should be reported to the Police on 191 or 18555 (toll-free). The Ghana Police Service is committed to ensuring road safety and encouraging motorists to comply with traffic regulations.
