The German Embassy in Ghana recently hosted a grand reception to mark Germany's National Day, also known as the Day of German Unity. The event, held at the ambassador's residence in Accra on September 30, brought together representatives from government, the diplomatic community, business organisations, and civil society. German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Landshöft was in attendance, where he shared his thoughts on Ghana's remarkable capacity for unity.

Ambassador Landshöft praised Ghana's ability to maintain unity despite its diverse religious, cultural, and political identities. He noted that this is something Germany and Europe can learn from, especially at a time when many societies are becoming increasingly divided. According to the ambassador, Ghana's ability to accommodate different identities peacefully stands out.

The reception was organised ahead of Germany's National Day, which is celebrated annually on October 3. During the event, Ambassador Landshöft reflected on Germany's reunification and noted that unity should never be taken for granted. This is particularly relevant at a time when war has returned to Europe and global uncertainty continues to grow.

Ambassador Landshöft highlighted the shared values between Ghana and Germany, including democracy, international cooperation, and a commitment to a rules-based international order. These shared values make the two countries natural partners. The ambassador also mentioned the growing cooperation between Ghana and Germany in areas such as technical and vocational education, youth development, and economic cooperation.

Germany remains one of Ghana's key bilateral partners in technical and financial cooperation. The ambassador noted that Germany is ageing, while Ghana is young, and that Germany needs skilled people, while Ghana needs opportunities for its young population. As a result, more than twenty German public and private institutions already work with Ghanaian partners in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The celebration featured performances showcasing both German and Ghanaian culture. Guests were entertained by a Ga cultural troupe, musician Okyeame Kwame, and music duo DopeNation. The event demonstrated the longstanding ties between Ghana and Germany, with the ambassador expressing his appreciation for the strong relationship between the two countries.

The German National Day reception in Ghana serves as a testament to the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. With cooperation in areas such as education, youth development, and economic cooperation, Ghana and Germany are poised to continue their partnership in the years to come.
