Generation Z youth in Uganda gathered at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds to celebrate President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's 82nd birthday. The event brought together Gen Z youth, government leaders, and stakeholders who highlighted the importance of empowering young people to participate in Uganda's economic transformation. The celebrations focused on President Museveni's message of patriotism, wealth creation, skilling, value addition, and socio-economic transformation.
In a message delivered by Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo, President Museveni emphasized Uganda's stability, good governance, and socio-economic progress. He noted that the country is steadily progressing towards a middle-income economy. The President urged Gen Z and all Ugandans to embrace the principles of enlightenment, ideology, nationalism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy as key pillars for Uganda's continued development.
President Museveni stressed the importance of nationalism, emphasizing that patriotism requires Ugandans to love their country, remain united, and recognize the contribution of every citizen. He called for an end to discrimination and tribalism, in line with the African Union Agenda 2063 principle of leaving no one behind. The President also highlighted Pan-Africanism, noting that Africa's large market provides Uganda with an opportunity to expand trade, increase production, and create economic opportunities.
The President further emphasized the need for continued industrialization and value addition to create jobs for young people and enable Uganda to export finished products. He identified commercial agriculture, industry, services, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as key sectors for wealth creation and job creation. President Museveni also called for an end to corruption and urged Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to guide Ugandans on available opportunities for wealth creation.
Vice President H.E Alupo commended President Museveni's emphasis on ensuring that Ugandans participate in national development through wealth creation, education, skilling, and government programs. She encouraged young people to embrace opportunities created through government programs and work together to consolidate Uganda's development gains. The Vice President also highlighted the importance of the East African Community and the wider African market in supporting Uganda's production and creating opportunities for young people.
Other government officials, including Minister for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs Hon. Minsa Kabanda, State Minister for Finance Hon. Amina Mukalazi, and State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Hon. Mercy Lakisa, congratulated President Museveni and emphasized the importance of his message on wealth creation. They encouraged Gen Z to take responsibility for shaping their future and work hard to remain united and protect Uganda's development gains.
The celebrations also featured Gen Z youth, who dedicated September to activities celebrating President Museveni's birthday. They organized a blood donation drive and exhibited products, showcasing their entrepreneurial skills and embracing President Museveni's message on value addition. The National Chairperson of Gen Z, Israel Kyarisima, called on young Ugandans to take responsibility for shaping their future and urged them to embrace the seven pillars of the qualitative leap promoted by President Museveni.
