The Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA) and ipNX Nigeria Limited have partnered to provide high-quality broadband internet to over 2,250 students and staff at Government College Ibadan (GCI). This initiative aims to strengthen digital learning, improve teaching, and expand access to educational resources at the public secondary school. The project was led by the GCIOBA North America branch and implemented under ipNX's corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.
A campus-wide fibre backbone has been deployed to connect 29 buildings, while enterprise-grade wireless connectivity has been provided within each building. This infrastructure will create a resilient digital ecosystem that supports teaching, learning, research, and efficient school administration. The project also aims to create opportunities for the adoption of future-ready digital learning resources, preparing students for the demands of a digital economy.
The partnership was highlighted during the 2026 GCIOBA Lagos branch annual luncheon, which was held recently. The event was part of efforts to preserve the institution's legacy and recognize its students' potential. President of GCIOBA, Olawale Babalakin, emphasized the association's commitment to providing students with the tools and learning environment required to compete globally.
According to Babalakin, Government College Ibadan has always stood as a symbol of outstanding scholarship, professional competence, and remarkable discipline. He added that the association found in ipNX a partner that shared its vision and possessed the expertise required to deliver the project. The collaboration is seen as an investment in the future of the alma mater and future generations.
Group Managing Director of ipNX Nigeria Limited, Ejovi Aror, described the initiative as a long-term investment in Nigeria's future. He stressed that digital infrastructure had become fundamental to modern education, and the partnership with GCIOBA reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that students have access to the connectivity and technology they need to learn, innovate, and succeed.
The project went beyond providing internet to create an environment that would promote innovation, collaboration, and improved learning outcomes. The luncheon also featured the conferment of posthumous merit awards on two distinguished alumni of the college, the late Dr. Burian Carew and the late Dr. Blackie Aror, in recognition of their contributions to Nigeria's technology and educational development.
The awards were conferred on Carew, a pioneer of Nigeria's ICT industry, and Blackie Aror, the father of ipNX's Group Managing Director. Receiving the awards on behalf of the families, Ejovi Aror thanked GCIOBA for recognizing their contributions. The partnership between GCIOBA and ipNX is seen as a significant step towards digitally transforming Government College Ibadan and preparing its students for the future.
