GCB Bank has urged micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana to formalize their businesses to improve access to financing. The bank emphasized that formal registration, proper record-keeping, and adequate documentation are essential for MSMEs to meet lenders' requirements and access credit. This call was made after the bank's MSME Caravan Clinic in Accra, which aimed to support MSMEs in Ghana.

According to Mr. Cedric McAddy, Head of Micro and Small Enterprises at GCB Bank, poor record-keeping and inadequate documentation are significant challenges limiting MSMEs' access to financing from formal financial institutions. To address these challenges, GCB Bank is providing digital banking solutions that enable MSMEs to collect and track customer payments. These solutions also help MSMEs to maintain proper records and documentation.

GCB Bank is using financial data from its digital banking solutions to expand access to unsecured financing for eligible MSMEs. The bank offers unsecured loans of up to one million cedis to MSMEs without collateral, annual statements, or large account balances. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between the information traditionally required by financial institutions and the operational realities of smaller businesses.

GCB Bank has introduced several digital solutions to support MSMEs, including the SoftPOS solution, which enables businesses to receive mobile money and card payments using their phones. Additionally, the bank provides stock-management tools to help MSMEs manage their inventory and sales. These solutions are designed to make it easier for MSMEs to operate and access financing.

The bank's mobile application allows MSMEs to access their accounts and conduct banking transactions without visiting branches or using laptops and tablets. This mobile app provides MSMEs with the flexibility to manage their finances on the go. Furthermore, GCB Bank provides physical collection and point-of-sale services, while also enabling businesses to open accounts and apply for loans online.

GCB Bank's efforts to support MSMEs are part of its strategy to help them build resilient and sustainable businesses. The bank encourages entrepreneurs with viable business ideas to approach them for support. By providing access to financing and digital banking solutions, GCB Bank aims to contribute to the growth and development of MSMEs in Ghana.

The MSME Caravan Clinic, which was held in Accra, was an initiative by GCB Bank to engage with MSMEs and provide them with the necessary support to grow their businesses. The clinic provided a platform for MSMEs to learn about the bank's products and services and to access financing and other forms of support. The event was well-attended by MSMEs and stakeholders in the business community.
