Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has addressed the allegations levelled against him, stating that President Tinubu knows him very well and that he never betrayed the confidence reposed in him by the President. Gbajabiamila made this statement at the 2026 Gbajabiamila Mega Empowerment Programme held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The allegations against Gbajabiamila emanated from the probe of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), where he was reportedly involved in the activities of the fictitious organisation. However, various probes of the fake agency, including the one conducted by the House of Representatives, have cleared the former Reps Speaker. Gbajabiamila stressed that due process prevailed despite pressure from some quarters for him to be condemned before the investigations were concluded.
Gbajabiamila expressed gratitude to the people of Surulere, Lagos State, and Nigeria for standing by him during the difficult period. He said, "The past few months have tested me in ways I never expected. Stories were written, strange accusations were made, lies were told, and my integrity was questioned." He added that the investigative reports are now in the public domain.
The Chief of Staff reaffirmed his commitment to his responsibilities in the Presidency, despite what he described as attacks against him. He stated, "No amount of money, no amount of blackmail or lies, whether sponsored from within or outside, will detract me from my work and the job Mr. President has given me to do." Gbajabiamila also warned those using his name to defame people or misrepresent him that the law will catch up with them.
Gbajabiamila spoke on his relationship with President Tinubu, stating that his loyalty to the President had remained unchanged despite political decisions with which he might not always agree. He said, "In politics, loyalty is the currency we spend the most. I have been with Mr. President for many years…I did not question his leadership and never betrayed his trust in me." He added that his commitment to the President's Renewed Hope agenda is unshaken.
The Chief of Staff highlighted the 2026 Gbajabiamila Mega Empowerment Programme, which targeted about 5,000 beneficiaries from communities in Surulere. The programme included cash support, vehicles, electric tricycles, buses, security patrol vehicles, and an ambulance. Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC governorship candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, commended Gbajabiamila for his consistency in identifying with his people.
Hamzat used the occasion to canvass support for the re-election of President Tinubu, saying other candidates cannot match the capacity and strength of the President. He described Tinubu as the last man standing who has remained in a party and built it from scratch to become the largest political party in Africa. The event showcased Gbajabiamila's efforts to empower his constituents and reaffirm his loyalty to President Tinubu.
