The Parti démocratique gabonais (PDG), Gabon's ruling party, has opened a provincial council meeting in Port-Gentil, the capital of Ogooué-Maritime province. The meeting, which will run until November 8, is part of the preparations for the party's 13th ordinary congress scheduled for November 27-29. The congress will focus on the theme "La réconciliation, l’éveil et la résurgence" (Reconciliation, Awakening, and Resurgence).

During the meeting, party militants will discuss the fundamentals of the PDG, including its functioning, management, internal organization, and relations with other political partners. The provincial secretary of the PDG, Ferdinand Ndong Ella, urged participants to be disciplined, tolerant, and engaged in the discussions, and to contribute to the various thematic commissions. He emphasized that every point of view counts and encouraged militants to take the opportunity to learn and deepen their knowledge of the party's texts and fundamentals.

The provincial council meeting is also marked by the reorganization of the party's basic structures. The Ogooué-Maritime province now has 13 federations, including four in the commune of Port-Gentil and three in each of the departments of Bendjè, Etimboué, and Ndougou. This new configuration follows an inspection and evaluation mission that led to the readjustment of local structures.

In a message delivered remotely, the PDG's general secretary, Blaise Louembé, outlined the five main objectives of the provincial council meetings. These include examining the chosen themes, evaluating the recommendations from the previous seminar-workshop, taking into account local realities, designating provincial delegates to the congress, and drafting a detailed report of the meeting.

The PDG's provincial council meeting in Ogooué-Maritime is part of a broader effort to modernize the party, which began with the extraordinary congress on January 30, 2025. The party aims to reorganize and better address the aspirations of Gabon's population by 2030. The meeting also welcomed new militants into the party.

The conclusions of the Ogooué-Maritime provincial council meeting will enrich the national reflections within the framework of the upcoming ordinary congress. The meeting's outcomes will contribute to the party's preparations for the congress, where key issues and strategies will be discussed.

The PDG's 13th ordinary congress will bring together party members and leaders to discuss the party's future and strategies. With the provincial council meetings, the party is taking steps to ensure a successful congress and to address the challenges facing Gabon.
