The Église de l'Alliance chrétienne et missionnaire du Gabon (EACMG) Ogooué-Maritime region recently celebrated its ecclesiastical year launch in Port-Gentil. The event, themed "Ensemble, faisons avancer le royaume de Dieu. Bénissons et croissons" (Together, let's move the kingdom of God forward. Let's bless and grow), was inspired by 1 Corinthians 3:9. Church leaders reaffirmed their commitment to unity, disciple formation, and spreading the institution's influence in society.
The event featured a speech by Reverend Pastor Philippe Yola, superintendent of the West Synod region. He emphasized the need for stronger cohesion among the approximately 40 local churches in the region. Yola stated that no vision can be achieved individually and encouraged unity to advance the kingdom of God. He also noted that the region has around 40,000 faithful who attend services every Sunday.
However, Yola expressed concern that the number of faithful has stagnated and urged each member to lead at least one person to Christ during the synodal year. He encouraged members to ensure that new followers receive proper biblical teaching to become true disciples. Additionally, Yola invited the faithful to look beyond their church walls and become agents of development and sources of blessing in their communities.
Yola also announced plans to improve the quality of cult infrastructure. Reverend Ferdinand Sangoye, president of EACMG, shared his vision for a "community ABC" centered on Christ. This vision has three main orientations: "Allons" (Let's go), to promote missionary zeal and spiritual conquest; "Bénissons" (Let's bless), to make each Christian a source of blessing to those around them; and "Croissons" (Let's grow), to foster spiritual and missionary growth.
Sangoye encouraged the faithful to put Christ at the center of their lives and engage more in evangelization, sharing, and transmitting their faith. The celebration included prayer sessions for Port-Gentil, the Ogooué-Maritime province, and local authorities, seeking divine guidance for the province's development and the well-being of its people.
The EACMG church aims to strengthen its presence in society through this renewed focus on unity and spiritual growth. By improving infrastructure and promoting a Christ-centered approach, the church hopes to expand its reach and influence. The launch event demonstrated the church's commitment to its mission and its desire to make a positive impact on the community.
