The government of Gabon has initiated an open house event, "Journées portes ouvertes de l'habitat," to provide citizens with information on purchasing a home, financing options, and land regularization. The event was launched by Vice President Alexandre Barro Chambrier and Housing Minister Mays Mouissi on the esplanade of Gabon 24. The event aims to address key questions and concerns regarding access to land and housing, a priority for the government.
According to Vice President Barro Chambrier, access to land and housing is a top priority for the government. He cited significant progress, including the production of over 16,000 land titles in just ten months and a program to build 3,100 homes in Bikélé, Ntoum, and Essassa. For low-income households, the government plans to offer quality housing at a controlled cost of between 12 and 15 million CFA francs.
Housing Minister Mays Mouissi emphasized the importance of financing in accessing housing. He called on banks to better assess the income of applicants and for insurance companies to allocate more long-term resources to the real estate sector. The minister also suggested that couples can submit a joint application to increase their borrowing capacity, a new innovation in the sector.
The event also provides an opportunity for citizens to learn about the regularization of land parcels, which costs 600,000 CFA francs for a surface area of up to 2,000 square meters. In Essassa, some land plots are being sold starting at 900 CFA francs per square meter, with the option of installment payments. This allows visitors to obtain concrete information before engaging in the process.
The open house event, which runs until October 31, aims to provide citizens with a better understanding of the procedures and options available for accessing housing and land. By providing clear information and guidance, the government hopes to facilitate the process and increase access to affordable housing for all.
The government's efforts to improve access to housing are part of a broader strategy to address the needs of the population. As part of this strategy, the Social Housing Company (SNI) is currently building homes that are available for reservation, with no payments required at this stage. The government is working to create a more dynamic and inclusive housing market.
The event demonstrates the government's commitment to transparency and citizen engagement. By providing a platform for citizens to access information and interact with government officials, the open house event promotes a better understanding of the housing sector and the opportunities available.
