On October 2, 2026, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara addressed members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Tai Local Government Area. He described them as critical assets to the growth and development of the state. Fubara emphasized the importance of their role in shaping the future of Rivers State.

During the swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch C, Stream I Corps members, Fubara urged the top management of the NYSC scheme to continue evolving through pragmatic reforms. This would enable the scheme to remain relevant to the dynamics of today's graduate youths. The governor was represented by Dr. Promise Oguzie, Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

Fubara encouraged the corps members to exhibit integrity, honesty, patriotism, and fear of God during their service, particularly when serving as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 general election. He emphasized that they should repay the trust reposed in them by Nigerians through their actions and behavior.

The State Coordinator of NYSC in Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe, welcomed the corps members and expressed confidence in their readiness to serve. He stated that they were physically, mentally, psychologically, and emotionally prepared to make a positive impact across the state. Oleghe also thanked Governor Fubara for his approval of various projects, including the construction of hostels and a new NYSC state secretariat.

The administration of the oath of allegiance was performed by Justice Frank Onyiri on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State. A total of 3,414 corps members took the oath, marking the beginning of their service. The event was a significant milestone in the NYSC program, which aims to promote national unity and development through youth service.

Governor Fubara's approval of various projects for the NYSC has been well-received by the corps members and the state coordinator. The construction of 1,000-capacity hostels for male and female corps members, as well as a new NYSC state secretariat and State Coordinator's lodge, is expected to improve the living and working conditions of the corps members.
