The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to strengthen strategic partnerships, deploy technology, and implement data-driven initiatives to reduce road crashes in Ogun State. This was stated by Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed at the RS2 Special Marshals Zonal Conference held at the Muhammadu Buhari International Conference Centre in Abeokuta. The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnerships and Data-Driven Road Safety Initiatives,” aimed to enhance road safety education, traffic management, and emergency response.

Mohammed, represented by Zonal Commander RS2 Lagos, ACM Matthew Olonisaye, commended the Special Marshals for their volunteerism but urged them to improve data collection for evidence-based interventions. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, private organisations, transport operators, communities, educational, and faith-based institutions in achieving the goal of reducing road crashes. This, he believes, will enhance road safety education, traffic management, emergency response, and post-crash care.

The National Coordinator, Special Marshals, Dr Adaji Usman, represented by former National Coordinator, Dr Sini Kinbi, stressed the need for discipline, professionalism, capacity building, and effective data management as key drivers of impact. He called on the Special Marshals to reaffirm their commitment to supporting the FRSC in reducing crashes and advancing a more professional and technology-driven Special Marshals Scheme.

The conference featured a technical session delivered by Commander Frederick Ayodele Sangofadeji (Rtd) and moderated by SM Olusegun Akintan, Zonal Coordinator, RS2 Lagos. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun was represented by the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr Gbenga Dairo, while the Sector Commander, RS2.1 Lagos, CC G.K. Hamzat, and other officers were in attendance.

Participants at the conference reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the FRSC in reducing crashes and advancing a more professional and technology-driven Special Marshals Scheme. They acknowledged the importance of strategic partnerships and data-driven initiatives in achieving this goal. The FRSC's efforts to curb road crashes in Ogun State have been welcomed by stakeholders, who believe that this will enhance road safety and reduce the number of crashes.

The FRSC's move to deploy technology and data-driven initiatives is part of a broader strategy to reduce road crashes across Nigeria. The Corps Marshal's representative emphasized that the FRSC will continue to work with stakeholders to enhance road safety education, traffic management, and emergency response. This, he believes, will lead to a reduction in road crashes and improved safety on Nigerian roads.
