The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals Zone RS2 has emerged as the best-performing zone in Nigeria, following a national evaluation of Special Marshals activities. The zone, which comprises Lagos and Ogun States, secured the first position with an outstanding score of 96 per cent. This achievement was attributed to the visionary leadership of the RS2 Zonal Coordinator, Special Marshal (Pastor) Olusegun Akintan.
The evaluation, which assessed operational performance, advocacy programmes, infrastructure development, training, documentation, and overall contributions to road safety, placed Zone RS7 in second position with 94 per cent. Zone RS6, comprising Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa States, came third with 90 per cent. The remarkable achievement of Zone RS2 reflects the dedication of the zonal leadership, state executives, unit coordinators, and volunteers.
Special recognition was given to the State Coordinator of RS2.1 Lagos Special Marshals, Special Marshal (Dr.) Olabisi O. Dennis, for his outstanding contributions to positioning Lagos among the leading states in Special Marshal activities nationwide. The evaluation report described Lagos Special Marshals as having one of the most extensive and diversified portfolios of activities.
The report highlighted various road safety initiatives, including public enlightenment campaigns, Road Safety Club programmes, school and church advocacy, training sessions, stakeholder engagements, equipment donations, patrol vehicle rehabilitation, and community-based interventions. The high level of participation, effective mobilization of units, infrastructure investments, and proper documentation of activities by members of the zone were also commended.
Stakeholders noted that the feat reflects the dedication of the zonal leadership, state executives, unit coordinators, and volunteers who continue to contribute their time and resources towards promoting safer roads across Nigeria.
