A humanitarian medical intervention supported by Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Wazirin Tinubu, and Special Adviser to the President on Political and Other Matters, has provided free eye surgeries to 350 residents of Kafur and Malumfashi Local Government Areas of Katsina State. The intervention was made possible after free eye screening programmes were held in Kafur and Malumfashi on August 29 and 30, 2026, which attended to 2,200 people.
The outreach programme provided consultations, medications, and eyeglasses to those in need, while patients requiring surgical intervention were referred for further treatment. A statement by one of the organisers, Engr. Abdullahi Ramat, said the intervention went beyond medical care, with additional welfare items distributed to beneficiaries. Women received Ankara fabrics and bathing soap, while men were given fabrics and bathing soap in addition to their medications.
Of the 350 people who subsequently underwent surgery, 108 had been completely blind, 96 were blind in one eye, while 146 were suffering from partial visual impairment. The selected patients were transported from Kafur and Malumfashi to Kano for the surgical procedures. They remained there after the operations to enable medical personnel to monitor their recovery and provide post-operative care.
The organisers said the surgeries were successful, with all 350 beneficiaries regaining their sight. The outcome has brought considerable relief to patients and their families, particularly those who had endured prolonged periods of severe visual impairment. For beneficiaries who had been completely blind, the restoration of sight has taken on a significance beyond the medical outcome.
The ability to see again can mean greater independence, renewed interaction with family members, and the opportunity to resume activities that had become difficult or impossible because of blindness. The intervention was sponsored by Alhaji Ibrahim Kabir Masari as part of an effort to provide vulnerable residents of Kafur and Malumfashi with access to specialised eye care that might otherwise have remained beyond their reach.
Beneficiaries and organisers expressed appreciation to Alhaji Masari for supporting the programme and described the intervention as a gesture that had brought relief to hundreds of individuals and their families. They also prayed that Allah would reward him abundantly, bless him and his family, accept the initiative as Sadaqah Jariyah, and grant him and his family Jannatul Firdaus as their final abode.
The organisers also acknowledged members of the committee whose contributions helped make the programme possible, including Alhaji Sabiu Sa’id Mahuta, the committee chairman, Yusuf Garba Kafur, the Coordinating Secretary, and other committee members. The completion of the surgeries marks the conclusion of the medical commitment that followed the initial screening exercises in the two local government areas.
