Former Accra Mayor Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah has expressed support for the concerns of Adipa/Asiaw Electoral Area residents regarding the Adipa landfill site. The former mayor emphasized the need for an engineered landfill site, citing the potential impact of leachate, foul odor, and flies on communities living around landfill facilities. He explained that the leachate from the landfill is hazardous and can engulf the entire community, causing harm to residents. However, Mr. Nii Adjei Sowah also noted that shutting down the facility outright could exacerbate Accra's already challenging waste management situation, as the city generates large volumes of waste daily.

He questioned where the city's waste would be dumped if the Adipa landfill site were to be closed, stressing the need for a well-managed disposal facility. The former mayor also clarified that the material currently being transported to the Adipa facility is not regular daily waste, but rather accumulated waste from around the Korle Lagoon following dredging operations.
