The Dansoman Keep Fit Club, organisers of the Accra Marathon, has announced the return of the 42.2-kilometre race for this year’s edition, scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the Independence Square in Accra. The event, one of Ghana’s oldest road races, is expected to attract more than 8,000 participants as it marks its 35th year. This year’s marathon, headlined by First National Bank, would start and finish at the Independence Square.
The marathon will feature the flagship 42.2km race, a 10km open race for recreational runners, and a 10km race for Rising Stars athletes aged under 18. The event aims to provide a platform to discover and develop long-distance running talent in Ghana.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Benjamin Ahorlu, Chairman of the Dansoman Keep Fit Club, expressed excitement over the return of the full marathon race. He said it would provide a platform to discover and develop long-distance running talent in Ghana. “We are delighted to bring back the full marathon race as part of efforts to unearth more distance runners and improve the event further,” he said.
Mr Ahorlu noted that the organisers were committed to raising the standards of the race to meet international expectations, with every participant set to receive a medal while outstanding performers would be rewarded with attractive prizes from sponsors. According to him, the marathon had over the years produced athletes who had gone on to represent Ghana and excel on the international stage.
This year’s edition would feature enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of participants while providing a competitive environment for athletes to develop their abilities. Madam Priscilla Osei-Ameyaw, Brands Manager of Blowchem Industries Limited, producers of Bel Beverages, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the event, citing its importance in promoting healthy lifestyles and wellbeing.
The event is also being supported by several corporate organisations including Hollard Insurance, Indomie and Multi-Pro. The Accra Marathon remains one of the country’s longest-running road races and continues to serve as a platform for talent identification, fitness promotion and athletics development.
