Sunbeth Energies, a leading player in Nigeria's energy sector, has launched the country's first self-service fuel station in Abuja. Located in the Wuse axis of the capital city, the station allows customers to initiate, complete, and monitor their fuel purchases independently. This new service aims to provide customers with greater control and visibility at the point of purchase. The self-service model has already been successfully implemented at Sunbeth Energies' Ogba outlet in Lagos.
According to Abiola Ameen, Chief Marketing Officer at Sunbeth Energies, the self-service experience has been designed to give customers greater control over the fuelling process. Customers can select the required quantity or value of fuel, complete payment, receive authorisation to use the pump, and dispense the fuel themselves. The transaction is confirmed through the system once fuelling is complete. Trained customer experience personnel will be available at the station to assist customers and guide first-time users through the process.
The Abuja launch builds on Sunbeth Energies' experience with the self-service model at its Ogba outlet in Lagos, where the company has recorded 100 per cent transaction success with zero service downtime over the past month. This experience has provided valuable insight into customer behaviour, station operations, and the support required to deliver a seamless self-service experience. These lessons have been applied to the Wuse deployment, with particular attention to reliability, customer service, and building trust in the experience.
The self-service process at the Wuse Station follows five key stages: customers purchase fuel and select the required amount, complete payment, receive pump authorisation, dispense the fuel, and confirm the completed transaction. This process allows customers to follow the transaction from payment and pump authorisation through to fuel dispensing and confirmation. The introduction of self-service fuelling in Abuja is an important development for Sunbeth Energies' retail operations.
Lateef Abioye, Managing Director at Sunbeth Energies, stated that the performance of the Lagos deployment had strengthened the company's conviction that the future of downstream retail will be increasingly shaped by technology, convenience, and customer experience. The company plans to continue rolling out self-service fuel stations, building on the success of the Ogba and Wuse deployments. This will provide customers with an alternative way of completing their fuel purchases.
The launch of the self-service fuel station in Abuja extends Sunbeth Energies' self-service offering beyond Lagos and gives customers in the Federal Capital Territory access to a new way of fuelling their vehicles. The Wuse Station is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to support a seamless self-service experience, including trained customer experience personnel. This will ensure that customers receive the support they need to navigate the self-service process.
The introduction of self-service fuelling in Abuja is expected to enhance the fuel purchasing experience for customers in the Federal Capital Territory. With its experience in Lagos and now Abuja, Sunbeth Energies is well-positioned to continue expanding its self-service fuel station network across Nigeria. The company's focus on technology, convenience, and customer experience is likely to shape the future of downstream retail in the country.
