Taifa Gas, a leading energy company in Tanzania, has awarded a motorcycle to one of its Energy Ambassadors, Pilly Zubery, for promoting the use of clean cooking energy in Msalala District, Shinyanga Region. The award is part of the company's efforts to support the government's target of having 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034. Zubery was recognized for reaching over 50 households with information on clean cooking and helping them switch to gas.

The Energy Ambassador campaign, launched by Taifa Gas last year, aims to encourage households to switch from charcoal and firewood to cooking gas while training local residents to promote clean cooking in their communities. The campaign has contributed to an increased use of cooking gas in Msalala, with residents showing a positive response to the initiative. According to Taifa Gas Lake Zone marketing manager Hawa Omary, the campaign has demonstrated a commitment to ensuring that people use safer energy that benefits their health and the environment.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Taifa Gas marketing manager Oscar Shelukindo commended Zubery for her efforts in promoting clean cooking energy and acknowledged Barrick Bulyanhulu for supporting the initiative. Shelukindo emphasized the importance of the Energy Ambassador campaign in achieving the government's target of 80 percent clean cooking energy usage by 2034. He also recognized other ambassadors involved in the campaign for their contributions.

Barrick Bulyanhulu community relations officer Mary Lupamba expressed the company's commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and promoting clean cooking. Lupamba stated that the mining company would continue to support efforts that benefit the community and promote sustainable development. The company's support for the Energy Ambassador campaign is part of its broader commitment to environmental sustainability.

Zubery, the Energy Ambassador, thanked Taifa Gas for the award and stated that the campaign had provided economic opportunities for women involved in small businesses. She noted that the training she received through the campaign enabled her to reach households with information on clean cooking while expanding her business. Zubery plans to use the motorcycle, which comes with insurance, to support her distribution business and reach more customers.

The government's National Clean Cooking Strategy, launched in May 2024, aims to increase the proportion of Tanzanians using clean cooking energy to 80 percent by 2034. The strategy seeks to promote the use of clean cooking energy and reduce the country's reliance on charcoal and firewood. Taifa Gas's Energy Ambassador campaign is one of the initiatives aimed at achieving this target.

The awarding of the motorcycle to Zubery is a testament to Taifa Gas's commitment to promoting clean cooking energy in Tanzania. The company's efforts, in partnership with other stakeholders, aim to make a positive impact on the environment and improve the health and well-being of communities. With the support of ambassadors like Zubery, Taifa Gas is confident that it can make a significant contribution to achieving the government's target.
