The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) is poised to receive a significant financial boost from FIFA's record World Cup revenues. According to official correspondence obtained by ESPN, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has responded to a joint proposal from Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) advocating for direct allocations to member bodies. This development could mark a transformative moment for the EFA.

Under the proposed model, all 211 member associations, including the EFA, could receive a minimum payout of US$10 million, approximately E163 million, spread across the 2027–2030 cycle. The push from UEFA Chief Aleksander Ceferin and CONCACAF Head Victor Montagliani came on the heels of intense debate within global football governance. The two leaders had previously demanded Infantino's resignation after he explored selling a 20 per cent stake in the World Cup to private investors.

Infantino has now signaled broad agreement with the principle of sharing the financial success of the World Cup, reiterating his long-standing stance that 'FIFA's money is your money'. However, he stopped short of confirming fixed figures. In his letter addressed to the heads of all six continental confederations, including Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe, Infantino emphasized that formal allocations must undergo rigorous governance and financial review.

A potential influx of roughly E164 million would offer crucial resources to advance local football infrastructure, development programmes, and structural operations in Eswatini. The EFA could utilize these funds to improve football facilities, enhance coaching and training programs, and strengthen its administrative capacity. This windfall could have a lasting impact on the development of football in the country.

Infantino cautioned that no figure can be treated as a binding commitment until approved by the FIFA Council. He has tasked the Secretary General with consolidating all proposals for the upcoming FIFA Council meeting on October 15. The Council will review and discuss the proposals, ensuring that any allocation is fair, transparent, and in line with FIFA's governance and financial regulations.

The proposed allocation is subject to rigorous governance and financial review to ensure transparency and accountability. This process will involve a thorough examination of FIFA's financial situation, as well as the needs and priorities of its member associations. The review will help to ensure that any allocation is sustainable and effectively utilized to promote football development.

The EFA's potential windfall is a significant development for football in Eswatini. The association will need to carefully consider how to utilize these funds to maximize their impact on the sport. With the right planning and implementation, this financial boost could help to drive growth, improve competitiveness, and increase participation in football across the country.
