The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, emphasized that the Data Bank's success depends on sustained collaboration among various stakeholders, including Ministries, Departments and Agencies, state governments, educational institutions, development partners, the private sector, civil society organizations, and youth groups. This collective effort will ensure the initiative's effectiveness in addressing the diverse needs of young Nigerians.
The Data Bank is designed to provide comprehensive information on the demographic characteristics, skills, aspirations, needs, and opportunities of young Nigerians. This will enable the government to better identify young people and link them with opportunities relevant to their skills, aspirations, and circumstances. The minister highlighted the importance of inclusion, privacy, and responsible data management, noting that young Nigerians have diverse circumstances shaped by factors such as geography, gender, educational background, economic status, disability, location, and access to infrastructure.
One of the key objectives of the National Youth Data Bank is to improve the visibility of young people who might be underrepresented in existing datasets, particularly those in rural and underserved communities. The initiative will also strengthen the government's capacity to identify emerging needs, design targeted interventions, and connect young Nigerians with relevant opportunities. Robust safeguards will be implemented to protect personal information and ensure the accuracy and responsible use of data entrusted to the system.
The National Youth Data Bank is part of the Federal Government's broader youth development agenda, focusing on youth empowerment, job creation, skills development, digital transformation, and human capital development. The initiative will provide government institutions, development partners, the private sector, and researchers with information to design interventions that respond more effectively to the realities and aspirations of Nigerian youths. The launch of the National Youth Data Bank has received commendations from stakeholders, including Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth Development. He described the initiative as an important step toward a more responsive, evidence-based approach to youth development. The senator emphasized that reliable information on the country's young population would support effective legislation, policy formulation, resource allocation, and the design of targeted interventions.
