The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed ₦140.8 billion to manufacturers and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under its Presidential Intervention Package. This initiative aims to strengthen businesses and expand economic activities in the country. The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, made this disclosure while speaking on Nigeria's economic potential.

According to Dr. Oduwole, the Bank of Industry (BoI) completed the disbursement of the funds allocated to manufacturers and MSMEs. The government released the entire ₦75 billion Manufacturing Sector Fund to 104 manufacturing companies. These beneficiaries received financial support to acquire production equipment, purchase raw materials, improve operational capacity, and expand their businesses.

The government also disbursed ₦65.8 billion from the ₦75 billion MSME Intervention Fund to 15,018 small and medium-scale businesses. This disbursement leaves approximately ₦9.2 billion from the original allocation. However, it is unclear when the remaining funds will reach other eligible businesses. The interventions are part of the Federal Government's ₦200 billion Presidential Intervention Package.

The ₦200 billion Presidential Intervention Package is managed by the Bank of Industry to improve access to financing for businesses across the country. The package includes a ₦50 billion Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme designed to support nano-businesses across Nigeria's 774 local government areas. Eligible beneficiaries receive ₦50,000 each to support their businesses.

The intervention comes amid persistent challenges facing Nigerian businesses, including rising production costs, limited access to affordable credit, high energy expenses, and difficulties in sourcing raw materials. Through the funding programs, the Federal Government seeks to improve local production, support enterprise development, and create opportunities for employment and economic growth.

The Presidential Intervention Package aims to address the challenges faced by Nigerian businesses. By providing financial support, the government hopes to enhance the capacity of businesses to sustain operations and contribute to economic growth. The package is also expected to promote entrepreneurship and job creation across the country.

The disbursement of funds to manufacturers and MSMEs is a significant step towards achieving the goals of the Presidential Intervention Package. The government will likely continue to monitor the impact of the interventions and assess the needs of businesses to ensure the package achieves its objectives.
