The Federal Government has announced the completion and commissioning of 10 world-class radiodiagnostic centres across Nigeria. This was disclosed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, during a courtesy visit to Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed. The centres aim to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
According to Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, the Federal Government laid the foundation for the first centre in Bauchi two years ago, and all 10 facilities have now been completed. This marks the largest expansion of health infrastructure and equipment in Nigeria's history. The centres were carried out through Med-Serv and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).
The Coordinating Minister added that, in addition to the 10 radiodiagnostic centres, three world-class cancer centres have also been completed. The centres are part of the Federal Government's efforts to revamp Nigeria's health sector with world-class diagnostic materials, infrastructure, and equipment. The centres will provide high-quality hospital infrastructure for services, training, and research.
The commissioning of the centres started in Bauchi, with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital being the first to be commissioned. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, also attended the event. Oyedele stated that the project was supported by the administration from groundbreaking to completion.
Taiwo Oyedele emphasized that the reforms pursued nationally, such as stabilizing the macro-economy and restoring investor confidence, are crucial in making projects like the Medsa Diagnostic Centre possible. He assured that the Federal Government will continue to work with states to turn macro-economic stability into tangible outcomes for Nigerians.
Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the project, which he described as a "double barrel of goodwill and goodness." He stressed that the state is proud of the partnership with the Federal Government, particularly in sectors that augment the state's meagre resources.
The Governor noted that the project was initiated three years ago, and its completion demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to improving the health sector. He emphasized that health and education are essential services that should not be politicized. The Governor also appreciated the President's efforts in establishing two Army formations in Bauchi.
