The Fédération patronale des associations professionnelles de la presse de Guinée (FEPAP-GUI) recently met with the Haute Autorité de la communication (HAC) to introduce its new bureau and discuss pressing concerns facing Guinea's press sector. The meeting, which took place on October 30, 2026, also included representatives from the Confédération guinéenne des entreprises (CGE-GUI). The primary objective was to officially present the new bureau and bring the concerns of press enterprises to the forefront of institutional and employer dialogue.

During the meeting, FEPAP-GUI President Amadou Tham Camara highlighted the structural difficulties hindering the development of press enterprises in Guinea. These challenges include heavy fiscal and social charges, limited access to bank financing, weak advertising resources, and unfair competition from international digital platforms such as Facebook, Google, and TikTok. The new executive bureau has requested support from HAC and CGE-GUI to advocate for adapted taxation, better access to financing, and effective integration of press enterprises into private sector support systems.

FEPAP-GUI has also called for strengthened dialogue between the regulatory authority and press organizations. Amadou Tham Camara emphasized the importance of consolidating relations between HAC and press organizations, ensuring that regulation, press freedom, respect for deontology, and the economic viability of media outlets advance together. This strengthened collaboration aims to promote a more favorable environment for Guinea's press sector.

One of the key requests made by FEPAP-GUI was for an increase in the public subsidy allocated to private media outlets. The current subsidy has been frozen at 3 billion Guinean francs for 18 years, and FEPAP-GUI is advocating for a significant increase to 15 billion francs per year. This adjustment is seen as essential for the sustainability and development of private media in Guinea.

The FEPAP-GUI delegation also sought support from HAC for the development of commercial partnerships between CGE-GUI member companies and Guinean media outlets. This includes annual advertising contracts and partnerships with major enterprises operating in Guinea. Such collaborations are expected to enhance the economic viability of press enterprises and promote a more dynamic media landscape.

In conclusion, FEPAP-GUI reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating closely with HAC in the process of sanitizing the media sector. The organization expressed its willingness to work together to address the challenges facing Guinea's press sector and to ensure that press enterprises are considered in the country's economic development prospects, particularly through opportunities offered by Simandou 2040.

To ensure effective collaboration and address the concerns of press enterprises, FEPAP-GUI proposed establishing a permanent framework for consultation between HAC, CGE-GUI, and FEPAP-GUI. This framework aims to transform the concerns of press enterprises into concrete realities and measurable actions, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of Guinea's media sector.
