The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to conduct promotion examinations for over 10,700 staff. The Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr Emeka Eze, disclosed this in Abuja, stating that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has approved the exercise. The examinations will be Computer-Based Test (CBT) and are scheduled to commence on Monday, October 6, at the National Open University.
According to Engr Eze, the promotion exercise will cover 145 cadres and will be based purely on merit and vacancies declared in line with the organogram and structure of the agencies. He urged staff to improve their computer literacy, emphasizing that the process will be competitive. The Commission has concluded arrangements for a hitch-free exercise, with necessary arrangements in place to ensure a smooth process.
The FCT Civil Service Commission Chairman noted that challenges that previously trailed promotion exams have been addressed, as workers now understand that the process is competitive. He expressed satisfaction that most FCT workers have come to terms with the fact that all exams must be on a competitive basis. Those who were successful in the July 2025 exercise have all collected their promotion letters.
With the forthcoming exercise, all promotion backlogs inherited by the Commission are expected to be cleared. Engr Eze stated that by 2027, the Commission will only be conducting promotion exercises as and when due, in line with the Minister's directive. He advised workers to prepare adequately and comply with examination guidelines, warning them not to come to the hall with phones and to bring their regulation letter and letter of confirmation.
The examination procedure will involve a simple exercise, with 45 minutes allocated for each person. Participants will log in to the computer using their login details, which will also serve as their password. Once they click in, their name will appear automatically with their cadre and level, and they can start the exam. The result will appear automatically at the end of the 45 minutes, and participants can screenshot or copy it.
Engr Eze emphasized that the promotion exercise is a merit-based process, and participants should not engage in any form of malpractice. He expressed confidence that the exercise will be conducted smoothly, just like the previous year's exercise. The Commission has put in place measures to ensure that the process is transparent and fair.
The promotion exams are a significant step towards enhancing the career prospects of FCTA staff. With over 10,700 staff participating, the exercise is expected to be a major milestone in the FCT Administration's efforts to promote meritocracy and transparency in its operations.
