The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has completed the construction of modern Divisional Police Headquarters and residential quarters in Ushafa and Saburi communities. This development is part of the FCTA's plan to decentralize security infrastructure and address security gaps in satellite and rural communities. The projects were inspected by Director of Security Services Department, FCTA, Mr. Adamu Gwary, who disclosed that the two facilities were 100 percent completed and ready for official handover.

According to Gwary, 10 other Divisional Police Headquarters being constructed across the six area councils have attained more than 90 percent completion. The FCTA is constructing 12 Divisional Police Headquarters, two in each area council, to improve police presence and response to criminal activities across the territory. The projects are expected to enhance security in the region and provide support for police personnel.

The Ushafa and Saburi facilities have been equipped with operational and residential facilities designed to support the deployment of police personnel to the communities. The ground floor of the police headquarters features a central counter and detention facilities, including separate cells for male and female suspects. The upper floor has eight furnished administrative offices, including an office for the Divisional Police Officer.

The complex also includes a three-storey residential block containing six furnished two-bedroom en-suite flats for police personnel, with kitchens, dining areas, stores, and sitting rooms. A technical team from the Public Building Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) will work with the contractor to verify the facilities against the Bill of Quantities before the final handover.

The FCTA's efforts to improve security in the region are part of a larger plan to decentralize security infrastructure. During security challenges in the territory in 2023, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, held town hall meetings across the six area councils and promised to decentralize security infrastructure from the city centre. The minister's directive led to the acceleration of the projects, with a target to complete them by the end of November.

The completed police headquarters and quarters in Ushafa and Saburi are expected to strengthen security in satellite communities and help check cross-border criminal activities. The Ushafa facility, alongside another police station at Igbu, will improve security in the region. The FCTA has recorded a reduction in reported cases of kidnapping and other serious crimes since 2023, attributing the development to improved equipment, expanded security infrastructure, and measures against criminal collaborators.

The FCTA has warned residents who provide information or other forms of support to kidnappers and criminal groups that they will face legal consequences. Residents are urged to provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious activities. The director of Security Services Department, FCTA, emphasized the importance of community support in the fight against crime, and the need for residents to work with security agencies to ensure a safer environment.
