The FCT Executive Council has ratified two completed road projects worth N17.1 billion in Bwari and Gwagwalada Area Councils. The approvals were part of the resolutions of the 19th meeting of the FCT Executive Council, presided over by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The ratified projects aim to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people and goods in the affected communities.
The two ratified projects include the construction of the Gaba-Tukulo Road with a two-span river bridge in Bwari Area Council. The contract was awarded to Messrs Setraco Nigeria Limited at a sum of N8.219 billion, inclusive of 7.5 per cent Value Added Tax. The second project is the rehabilitation of the Paikon-kore-Ibuwa Road within Gwagwalada Area Council, also awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited at a cost of N8.890 billion, inclusive of VAT.
Both projects had a completion period of 12 months and have already been completed and commissioned. The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the council meeting. Zulkiflu explained that the formal ratification by the council was necessary.
The council also approved a fresh N5.7 billion contract for the construction of a 33KVA power supply line to communities in Bwari. The project, awarded to Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited, has a contract sum of N5.703 billion, inclusive of 7.5 per cent VAT, and a completion period of eight months.
The power project is expected to complement existing infrastructure in the satellite towns, particularly ongoing interventions in water supply, road construction and street lighting. The interventions are part of efforts by the FCT Administration to accelerate infrastructure development and upgrade satellite communities.
The projects are expected to improve connectivity, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and support socio-economic activities across the affected communities. The approvals underscore the Administration’s expanding infrastructure programme beyond the Abuja city centre to the satellite towns and communities across the Area Councils.
