A TikTok post shared on 5 September 2026, claimed to show Ugandan politician Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, arriving in Tooro Kingdom for the burial of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV. The video shows Bobi Wine exiting a car, with the accompanying text reading, “Bobi Wine arrives in Fort Portal. HE Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu arrived in Toro Kingdom.” However, an investigation by PesaCheck found the claim to be false.
According to PesaCheck, at the time of King Oyo's death, Bobi Wine had fled the country following the disputed January 2026 presidential election. A keyword search conducted by PesaCheck returned no confirmatory results, raising suspicion about the claim's authenticity. The search results instead led to posts by Bobi Wine on X commenting on the king's ill health and a subsequent eulogy.
A longer version of the video under investigation was posted on TikTok on 14 July 2025, showing Bobi Wine arriving at Kigo Prison, Wakiso District, more than 300 kilometers from where Oyo was buried. Bobi Wine is seen with musician Mansour Ssemanda, alias King Saha, walking towards the prison entrance. The politician posted about the visit on X on 14 July 2025 and shared images of him in the same attire as in the claim video.
PesaCheck's investigation found that the video was from 14 July 2025, when Bobi Wine visited prisoners at Kigo Prison, Wakiso District. This contradicts the claim that the video shows Bobi Wine arriving in Fort Portal to mourn King Oyo. The fact-checking organisation concluded that the TikTok post claiming to show Bobi Wine arriving in Tooro for the burial of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV is false.
