Fountain University, Osogbo, has made a significant academic appointment, naming Raheemat Adeniran as its first Professor of Mass Communication. Professor Adeniran is a former lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU), where she spent 16 years. She joined Fountain University in 2023 and currently serves as the Dean of the College of Management and Social Sciences. Her appointment is notable for being the university’s first Professor of Mass Communication and the first female professor in the College of Management and Social Sciences.
The academic background of Professor Adeniran is impressive, with a journalism degree, master’s degree, and PhD in Communication Studies from LASU. Her research interests include journalism practice, health and development communication, misinformation, fact-checking, and media credibility, particularly in Nigeria and Africa.
Professor Adeniran has been involved in several notable research projects and fellowships. She was a 2020 Dubawa Fact-Checking Research Fellow, now known as the Kwame Karikari Fact-Checking and OSINT Fellowship, powered by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID). Her publications include research on maternal and child health reporting, newsroom practices, and information disorder.
