The Eswatini Government has announced that first-year students studying at local tertiary institutions under the Pre-Service Tertiary Education and Training (PTET) Scholarship Programme will receive their student assistance and book allowances by October 31, 2026. This comes as the Ministry of Labour and Social Security revealed that payment for ongoing students had already commenced at the end of September 2026. The disbursement of allowances for the 2026/2027 academic year is contingent upon students completing registration and tertiary institutions submitting required invoices.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, delays in completing registration processes at some institutions have affected the processing of allowances for students. The ministry stated that some tertiary institutions had not yet concluded their registration process, while others had only just completed it. This has resulted in some institutions submitting their invoices as late as October 2, while others had not yet submitted them.

The ministry emphasized that allowances can only be processed for fully registered students and upon receipt of invoices from their respective tertiary institutions. As a result, the earliest that payment can be expedited is October 31, provided students have completed registration and institutions have prepared and submitted their invoices on time.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has urged students to ensure they complete the necessary registration requirements, while calling on tertiary institutions to submit invoices timeously to facilitate payment. The ministry stressed the importance of cooperation between tertiary institutions, student bodies, and parents in ensuring that students receive the necessary support.

Principal Secretary Makhosini Mndawe emphasized the ministry's commitment to creating an enabling environment for students to have a positive learning experience. Mndawe said achieving this would require the cooperation of all stakeholders involved in supporting students throughout their tertiary education.

The ministry's statement highlights the importance of timely communication and cooperation between stakeholders to ensure that students receive their allowances. Students and institutions are expected to work together to ensure that all requirements are met to facilitate the disbursement of allowances.

The Eswatini Government's PTET Scholarship Programme aims to support students pursuing tertiary education. The programme's success relies on effective collaboration between the ministry, tertiary institutions, and students. By working together, stakeholders can ensure that students receive the necessary support to excel in their studies.
