Honourable Engr. Esosa Iyawe has unveiled his Tricycle Empowerment Programme, donating over 100 tricycles to youths and constituents in Oredo Federal Constituency of Edo State. The programme aims to improve livelihoods and promote grassroots development. The event, which took place in Benin City, attracted thousands of people, who celebrated the initiative with chants of support for Iyawe.
The Tricycle Empowerment Programme is part of Iyawe's efforts to create economic opportunities for young people across Oredo Federal Constituency. Speaking at the event, Iyawe said the tricycles would be used to empower families and communities in Oredo. He also urged beneficiaries to use the tricycles to put food on their tables and better their lives.
Iyawe disclosed plans to commission 1,000 street lights under his "Operation Light Up Oredo" initiative. He promised to deepen collaboration with the council chairman and other stakeholders to expand development projects across the constituency. The tricycles, popularly known as kekes, are expected to have a positive impact on the lives of constituents.
The empowerment programme is one of several interventions undertaken by Iyawe. He has distributed over 100 buses, sewing machines, and make-up kits, and recently carried out a motorcycle distribution exercise. Iyawe's target is to reach 1,000 households in Oredo, with the help of President Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Ohpebholo.
Beyond his constituency empowerment initiatives, Iyawe has been active on the floor of the House of Representatives. In 2024, he moved motions focused on national interest and development, including one urging the Federal Government to enforce 2017 Executive Order 003 and sensitise Nigerians on the benefits of patronising local textile manufacturers.
Iyawe also moved a motion urging the Federal Government to convert forfeited and abandoned properties into office spaces for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) occupying rented facilities. The speaker of the House has commended Iyawe's efforts, which have earned him recognition as a leader who has emerged at a critical moment to support young people and represent their interests.
The empowerment programme took place against the backdrop of Edo State Governor, His Excellency Governor Monday Okpebholo's promise to mobilise 2.5 million votes in the state for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Iyawe's interventions have been praised by a top politician at the event, who described him as a leader with a good heart who has remembered the youths and is working to support them.
