Equity Afya has launched its second standalone community pharmacy in Nairobi's Central Business District, located at Bruce House opposite Cardinal Otunga Plaza. The new pharmacy offers a wide range of products and services, including over-the-counter and prescription medicines, baby products, nutrition and wellness items, as well as health-screening and wellness-guidance services. Chief Pharmacist Dr. Gohil Jaimini noted that the standalone pharmacies complement Equity Afya's existing clinic network by extending pharmaceutical access and creating sustainable delivery models.
The franchise model adopted by Equity Afya allows healthcare professionals to own and operate pharmacies, promoting sustainable and community-centered healthcare delivery. Franchisee Dr. Benson Musyoka emphasized that access to quality medicines completes the patient's care journey, ensuring safe and affordable treatment with proper guidance.
Equity Afya's expansion plans are part of its ambition to establish 1,000 outpatient centers and 1,000 standalone pharmacies across East and Central Africa. The company already operates 156 medical centers in Kenya and five in the Democratic Republic of Congo, each with in-house pharmacies. This extensive network underscores the company's commitment to enhancing healthcare access in the region.
The launch of the Bruce House pharmacy follows the opening of Equity Afya's first standalone community pharmacy at Britam Towers in Upper Hill. This second standalone pharmacy is expected to further increase access to medicines and healthcare services in Nairobi's central business district.
