Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is currently in detention at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as the anti-graft agency continues to investigate alleged financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans. He voluntarily surrendered himself to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, 2026, following an Accra High Court warrant authorising his arrest and the search of his office.

According to EOCO, the investigations concern allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences, and other matters. The agency has commenced the applicable investigative and operational procedures, and Nana Baffour Awuah is cooperating with investigators. EOCO has urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions regarding the culpability of any individual.

EOCO has also urged the public to disregard reports circulating on social media alleging that Nana Baffour Awuah had been granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties. The MP's lawyer, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, indicated that questioning was expected to continue on Friday, October 2. Meanwhile, a number of legal practitioners and MPs gathered at the EOCO premises on Friday to show solidarity with Nana Baffour Awuah.

Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Minority Chief Whip and NPP MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, raised concerns about the overnight detention after visiting the EOCO premises to check on his colleague. He dismissed reports suggesting that incriminating evidence had been found at the MP's office, describing those claims as inaccurate.

The Minority Caucus was surprised by the decision to detain the MP overnight, noting that the matter is still under investigation and yet to be determined. Mr Annoh-Dompreh said the Caucus would continue to follow due process while monitoring the use of state investigative institutions.

Nana Baffour Awuah, who is also Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, remains in EOCO custody as investigators continue with the process. A Ghana News Agency source confirmed that the MP's detention is part of the ongoing investigations.

EOCO has assured the public that the investigations will be conducted professionally, independently, and in accordance with due process. The agency will pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine available evidence, and afford all persons involved their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.
