The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has granted Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah a GH¢50 million bail with three sureties. This follows his voluntary appearance at EOCO's offices on October 1, to assist with an ongoing investigation. An arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court had been necessary as earlier efforts to secure his attendance for questioning had been unsuccessful.

The investigation involves allegations including criminal conspiracy, causing financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, and tax-related offences. Mr Baffour Awuah has denied receiving an alleged GH¢2.2 million in legal fees and disputed parts of EOCO's account of its previous attempts to secure his attendance. EOCO stressed that the investigation is still ongoing and urged the public not to draw conclusions about anyone's culpability before the investigative and judicial processes are complete.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has challenged EOCO to step up efforts to identify and prosecute the financiers and organisers behind Ghana-linked drug trafficking networks. In a Facebook post, the Effutu MP accused the agency of focusing unduly on arresting and investigating opposition figures while failing to show the same urgency in tackling major narcotics networks.

Mr Afenyo-Markin urged EOCO to widen its investigations to target those who fund and organise drug trafficking operations. His comments come amid growing public attention on Ghana-linked narcotics cases and EOCO's ongoing work on various economic and organised crime allegations. The public is increasingly interested in the outcomes of these investigations.

The investigation involving Mr Baffour Awuah continues, with EOCO working to gather more information. The MP's bail conditions include a GH¢50 million bond with three sureties, indicating a significant level of scrutiny and oversight. This case has garnered substantial public attention due to the allegations involved.

EOCO's ongoing investigations cover a range of economic and organised crime allegations, not limited to the case involving Mr Baffour Awuah. The agency is working to address various forms of crime, including financial and narcotics-related offences. The public is awaiting the outcomes of these investigations.

The case against Mr Baffour Awuah and EOCO's broader investigations highlight the ongoing efforts to address economic and organised crime in Ghana. The agency's work aims to bring those involved in such crimes to justice, while also ensuring that the investigative and judicial processes are followed.
