On September 30, 2026, Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, inaugurated the reconstituted Enugu State Civil Service Commission and the governing councils of several institutions, including the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, and the Enugu State College of Education Technical (ESCET). The ceremony took place at Government House, Enugu, with the Governor represented by the Secretary to the Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
According to Governor Mbah, the reconstitution of the leadership of the various governing councils, boards, and commissions aligns with his administration's goal of building strong institutions. He emphasized that his administration aims to grow the state's economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, which can only be achieved with an effective and efficient civil service and skilled manpower. The Governor stressed that his administration's cardinal principles, including transparency, traceability, and accountability, will guide the operations of the new leadership.
The Governor charged the new leadership to operate based on evidence, meritocracy, innovation, and teamwork. He urged them to examine existing processes, develop new approaches to improve efficiency and results, and function as a team. The Governor emphasized that working in silos will be detrimental to the entire system and could create room for corruption and duplication. He also highlighted the importance of disruptive innovation in his administration.
The newly inaugurated members of the Enugu State Civil Service Commission include Prof. Gabriel Ajah as Chairman, Ambrose Nwodo as Secretary, and other members. The governing councils of ESUT, IMT, Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, and ESCET also have new chairmen and members. The TVET Board has Dr. Amaka Ngene as Chairman, and other members. The Governor's representative, Prof. Onyia, witnessed the inauguration ceremony.
In their acceptance speeches, the new chairmen and members expressed their gratitude to Governor Mbah for the confidence reposed in them. Prof. Ajah unveiled the "P.R.E.S.E.N.T" philosophy, which will guide his commission. The chairmen of the ESUT and IMT governing councils assured that they would work with the university and institution management to promote growth and development.
