Foundation members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North senatorial district have appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to urgently intervene in the removal of ward and local government executives. The group, known as G-30 Enugu North Senatorial Zone, expressed concern over the manner in which the executives were shoved aside without explanation. They also requested the governor to ascertain the circumstances and authority under which the changes were made.

The affected executives were nominated through the APC structure as part of an arrangement designed to integrate members of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, and foundation APC into a unified party structure in the state. According to the group, some ward and local government executives who emerged from the party's congresses in March 2026 had been removed and replaced without communication to the affected officers.

The group, led by Barrister Barth Ifeanyi Ugwoke, a former APC Director of Research, Strategy and Intelligence Matters, made the appeal in a statement. They demanded that the duly elected executives be restored to their respective positions where no valid resignation, disciplinary finding, anti-party activity, or other constitutionally recognized ground exists. The group also requested that future changes to elected party structures be made strictly in accordance with the APC constitution and applicable party procedures.

The G-30 Enugu North Senatorial Zone encouraged the state party leadership to embrace consultation, fairness, and inclusiveness in dealing with foundation APC members. They emphasized that the proper integration of foundation members, devoid of lopsided appointments, is crucial in preserving the unity of the new APC. The group had welcomed Governor Mbah and other former PDP leaders and members into the APC, hoping for a stronger, more united, and more inclusive party.

According to the arrangement, the 18 existing PDP executives at the ward and LGA levels were to retain their positions, while foundation APC members and former Labour Party members were to occupy the remaining nine positions. However, the group alleged that some elected executives were removed and replaced without explanation, which they consider unfair and contrary to the APC constitution.

The group stressed that an elected party office should not be treated as an appointment that can simply be withdrawn or reassigned at the discretion of individuals. They argued that where an elected officer is alleged to have committed an offence or violated party rules, the appropriate disciplinary and constitutional procedures should ordinarily be followed, with the affected person given an opportunity to respond.

The APC's previous actions in announcing suspensions and dissolutions of ward and LGA executives, citing specific allegations and investigations, demonstrate the importance of establishing and communicating the basis for any fundamental alteration of party structures. The group expects Governor Mbah to take urgent steps to address the situation and restore the unity and inclusiveness of the APC in Enugu state.
