Emtel spearheaded the Ébène Community Clean-Up Campaign on September 18th, 2026, in celebration of World CleanUp Day. The initiative was organized in collaboration with Landscope Mauritius, the Currimjee Foundation, and other corporate partners operating within the Ébène Cybercity. The campaign aimed to bring businesses together to lead by example, inspire collective action, and promote a cleaner, more sustainable future for Mauritius.
The two-hour morning campaign, coordinated with expert partner Mission Verte, mobilized over 125 enthusiastic participants, including staff members from Emtel and the Currimjee Group. By the end of the clean-up, volunteers had collected an impressive total of 1,625.5 kg of waste across the cybercity. The initiative achieved significant environmental milestones, including the collection of 193 kg of electronic waste, 72.5 kg of recyclable waste, and 1,360 kg of non-recyclable general waste.
The collected electronic waste was addressed through a dedicated e-waste drive conducted by Emtel on the day, while recyclable waste was diverted directly through Mission Verte to be processed and recycled. Non-recyclable general waste was safely cleared from public spaces. The initiative not only focused on physical cleanup but also aimed to raise public awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
Shezaad Auchoybur, Manager – Sustainability & Social Impact at Emtel, emphasized that environmental responsibility goes beyond a single calendar event. He stated that the clean-up campaign is an integral part of Emtel's ongoing sustainability commitment towards responsible waste management and environmental stewardship. Emtel remains dedicated to embedding sustainability into its operations and building lasting, positive habits for the community.
The strong turnout from Ébène's corporate community underscores a growing recognition that workplace hubs have a shared duty to protect local ecosystems. The success of this campaign serves as a catalyst for ongoing environmental consciousness, encouraging individuals and companies to rethink their everyday consumption and waste habits. The collaboration between Emtel, Landscope Mauritius, and other partners demonstrates a powerful shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
As the September-long observance of World Cleanup Day concludes, Emtel and its partners hope that their efforts will inspire a lasting impact. The initiative has shown that individual hands joined together can create a profound collective impact. Emtel and its partners will continue to work together to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility in Mauritius.
The Ébène Community Clean-Up Campaign is a testament to the positive change that can be achieved through collective action and collaboration. Emtel and Landscope Mauritius have set an example for other businesses to follow, demonstrating that environmental responsibility is a shared duty that requires a joint effort. The campaign's success will hopefully encourage others to join in and make a difference.
