Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Honourable Ndudi Elumelu, has made a significant contribution of N3.5 million to the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme. This initiative aims to enroll 500 residents of Ward 11, Oshimili South, in the scheme. Elumelu's intervention took place at Ahabam Primary School, Cable, Asaba, during a Back-to-School programme organised by the Ekwueme Movement for Sheriff, led by Smart Meka.
The Back-to-School programme provided over 1,500 customised notebooks to more than 300 pupils in five primary schools. These schools include Ogboli Primary School 1 and 2, Ahabam Primary School, and Enechara Primary School, all located in Ward 11. In addition to educational materials, the programme also facilitated health insurance enrollment for 150 beneficiaries. Elumelu's contribution has increased the total number of beneficiaries receiving healthcare support through the programme to 650.
Elumelu expressed his admiration for Smart Meka, describing him as his 'pride and beloved brother'. He commended Meka's sustained commitment to education, healthcare, and grassroots empowerment. According to Elumelu, supporting children's education and expanding access to healthcare are essential investments in the future of the community.
Smart Meka disclosed that the Ekwueme Movement for Sheriff has been distributing educational materials to pupils for approximately three years. The group plans to distribute rice to residents in December. Former Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye, who represented former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, commended the initiative and Elumelu's additional health insurance intervention.
Delta North APC chairman, Dan Ossai, praised Meka's consistency in promoting education and healthcare. He noted that the group increased its beneficiaries from 100 children last year to 150 this year. Ossai's comments highlight the growing impact of the Ekwueme Movement for Sheriff's initiatives in the region.
