The Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has taken a significant step to improve primary education in the state by distributing 20 operational vehicles to monitoring and evaluation officers. This initiative aims to enhance school supervision, data collection, and timely reporting across the 16 Local Government Education Authorities in Ekiti State. The distribution ceremony took place in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Ekiti SUBEB Chairman, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, emphasized that the vehicles are a strategic investment in strengthening the monitoring, supervision, and quality assurance of public primary schools. He noted that the improved mobility will enable monitoring and evaluation officers to reach hard-to-access schools, monitor compliance with established standards, and provide timely data for effective policy formulation. This move is part of Governor Biodun Oyebanji's commitment to providing the necessary mobility to improve security and education delivery.
The Permanent Secretary in the Board, Michael Omolayo, described the procurement and distribution of the vehicles as a demonstration of the commitment of the Oyebanji administration and SUBEB management to repositioning basic education for greater efficiency and improved outcomes. He stressed that effective monitoring and evaluation remain central to quality assurance in the basic education sub-sector. Omolayo also noted that inadequate logistics could hamper effective supervision, which is why the Board has provided field officers with the necessary operational tools.
Monitoring and evaluation officers play a crucial role in assessing school activities, checking compliance with education standards, gathering data, and identifying areas requiring intervention. Regular visits to schools are essential for ensuring that policies and programmes translate into improved teaching and learning conditions. The officers will use the vehicles to carry out their duties more effectively, thereby enhancing the overall quality of education in Ekiti State.
The Commissioner for Human Resources Management, Dr Olufunke Fajobi, commended the SUBEB chairman for prioritizing staff welfare and operational efficiency. She noted that an adequately equipped and motivated workforce is essential to improving learning outcomes. The initiative aligns with the administration's human capital development agenda, which aims to enhance the well-being and productivity of public servants.
The Commissioner for Project Management, Kayode Adeoye, highlighted that the vehicles will facilitate effective monitoring of SUBEB projects, ensuring quality delivery, value for money, and sustainability of interventions in schools. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the overall quality of education in Ekiti State. The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Aisha Garba, hailed Ekiti SUBEB for the initiative and reaffirmed UBEC's commitment to continued collaboration with SUBEBs across the country.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including SUBEB board members, directors of the Board, Education Secretaries from the 16 LGEAs, Headmaster-Generals, and the beneficiary M&E officers. The distribution of the vehicles is a significant step towards improving primary education in Ekiti State, and it is expected to have a lasting impact on the quality of education in the state.
