The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State will begin displaying the voters' register and collecting permanent voter cards (PVCs) nationwide on Friday. Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, has encouraged registered voters who have not collected their PVCs to do so. This process will take place from October 9 to October 15, 2026, across the state.

During the official flag-off and stakeholders' engagement on the display of the voters' register and collection of PVCs, Omoseyindemi emphasized the importance of verifying details and collecting PVCs. He was represented by Alhaji Tiamiyu Arowolo, the Head of Department, General Administration and Procurement. The event took place in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

The display of the Preliminary Register of Voters will enable eligible citizens to verify their names, photographs, biometric details, and other personal information. It will also provide an opportunity for citizens to file claims to correct omissions, misspellings, and other errors. Members of the public can raise objections against entries involving alleged underage persons, deceased individuals, non-citizens, or cases of multiple registration.

The Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed for seven days, from 9 am to 3 pm daily, at designated Registration Areas and local government headquarters. The register will be clearly marked as the Preliminary Register of Voters to allow members of the public, political parties, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to scrutinize it and raise legitimate claims or objections.

INEC in the state has trained personnel to handle the exercise, ensuring a smooth display of the voters' register and collection of PVCs. The REC charged the officials to uphold strict impartiality, transparency, and integrity throughout the exercise. He warned against negligence, absenteeism, political bias, favoritism, extortion, or unauthorized alteration of electoral records.

The exercise will be made accessible to vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and persons with disabilities. The REC assured that necessary measures will be taken to ensure that these groups can participate in the exercise without difficulties.

The collection of PVCs and display of the voters' register is a crucial step in the electoral process. It provides an opportunity for citizens to verify their details and participate in the democratic process. The exercise will take place from October 9 to October 15, 2026, and citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this window to verify their details and collect their PVCs.
