The eighth OPEC Gas Summit, held in Moscow, brought together leaders from gas-exporting countries to discuss the current state of global gas markets. They emphasized the importance of fostering dialogue between producers and consumers to guarantee stability in these markets. The summit was attended by Algerian Prime Minister, Siivi Grib, representing Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Discussions highlighted the impact of geopolitical disturbances on energy markets and the global economy.

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the summit, noting that geopolitical tensions have directly affected energy markets, stressing the need for cooperation among forum member states to ensure stable gas supplies. He mentioned that disturbances have caused a decline in gas supplies, which are expected to increase in demand soon, necessitating higher production and infrastructure development. Putin also praised Algerian-Russian relations, describing them as friendly.

In response to a message from President Tebboune, read by Prime Minister Grib, Putin highlighted the long-standing and friendly nature of Algerian-Russian relations. He expressed appreciation for the continuous communication and information exchange between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector. The Russian president's comments underscored the strong ties between Algeria and Russia.

The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, Philippe Michellebella, noted that the forum faces significant challenges due to geopolitical turmoil affecting energy markets, especially in terms of pricing and increased demand for spot contracts. He called for enhanced international cooperation and stressed that producers and consumers must work together to protect energy markets. Michellebella highlighted the importance of investing in all stages of the gas value chain to increase supply.

Michellebella also emphasized the importance of respecting countries' sovereignty over their resources while encouraging investment to boost supply. He reflected on the forum's achievements over the past 25 years, including the establishment of the Gas Research Center in Algiers. The Secretary General called for continued efforts to strengthen the forum's role in the global gas landscape.

The summit also addressed European laws aimed at reducing carbon emissions, with Michellebella advocating for cooperation in this area. He noted that forum member countries are investing in reducing methane emissions. The Secretary General highlighted the significance of the "Algiers Declaration" from the seventh summit and the newly introduced "Moscow Declaration," which aims to enhance dialogue between gas-exporting and consuming countries.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian participated in the summit, emphasizing that geopolitical tensions impact gas market stability, which faces unprecedented challenges. He underscored the forum's role in establishing a platform for dialogue and partnerships among member countries to address global energy challenges.
