The Egyptian Stock Exchange has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Abu Dhabi Securities Market during the annual Arab Financial Markets Conference in Abu Dhabi. This MoU aims to provide a clear and organized framework for the Abu Dhabi Securities Market to explore cooperation opportunities with the Egyptian Stock Exchange. The two parties will work together on initiatives that support market development, expand cross-border trading, and enhance investor access.
The signing ceremony was attended by several high-profile officials, including Walid Said Al Awadi, CEO of the UAE's Financial Markets Authority, Ghanam Bati Al Mazouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Securities Market, Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Securities Market, Mohammed Yasser Burnia, Syrian Minister of Finance, Omar Radwan, Chairman of the Egyptian Stock Exchange, Omar Barhamji, Chairman of the Damascus Stock Exchange, and Basel Asaad, Executive Director of the Damascus Stock Exchange.
According to Abdullah Salem Al Nuaimi, CEO of the Abu Dhabi Securities Market, the current stage of financial market development in the region requires closer cooperation with partners to open up new investment opportunities and enhance liquidity levels. The integration of markets will facilitate cross-border trading and provide investors and issuers with wider access to markets. This effort supports Abu Dhabi's 2030 vision and solidifies the emirate's position as a global investment hub.
Omar Radwan, Chairman of the Egyptian Stock Exchange, emphasized that the gathering of financial market leaders at the conference demonstrates a unified goal and a genuine will to drive Arab cooperation forward. He stressed that building effective and complementary partnerships between participating parties is essential for supporting the resilience of financial markets and attracting global capital and direct investments.
The MoU between the Egyptian Stock Exchange and the Abu Dhabi Securities Market is a significant step towards facilitating cross-border trading, developing infrastructure, and exploring joint cooperation opportunities. This move is expected to contribute to the economic growth of both countries. The partnership also builds on previous collaborations, including a bilateral MoU between the Egyptian Stock Exchange and the Damascus Stock Exchange signed in 2006.
The Egyptian Stock Exchange has a rich history dating back to 1883, with the establishment of the Alexandria Commodity Futures Market, followed by the creation of the Cairo Stock Exchange in 1903. Today, it is one of Africa's largest stock exchanges, listing 277 companies with a total market capitalization of $77 billion as of August 2026.
