Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently participated in a session on development corridors and logistics at a high-level African forum held in New Alamein City from October 2-4, 2026. The forum included several high-profile events, such as the New Alamein - Africa Business Forum, a summit of the founding countries of the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD), and the eighth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union. Madbouly emphasized the importance of economic and logistical interconnection in achieving growth and enhancing competitiveness.

During his intervention, Madbouly highlighted that recent global economic developments and supply chain disruptions have underscored the crucial role of efficient transportation and logistics systems in ensuring economic security and resilience. He stressed that Africa stands at a historic opportunity to redefine its approach to development corridors, viewing them not just as routes or transportation paths but as integrated systems for economic and social development.

Madbouly pointed out that this vision aligns with the African Union's Agenda 2063 and the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), as well as the African Continental Free Trade Area. He emphasized that the success of these initiatives depends on facilitating the free movement of goods, reducing trade costs, and improving connectivity between African economies.

The Prime Minister outlined the challenges in developing these corridors, noting that it is not just about building infrastructure but also about integrating these assets into a cohesive system that generates economic value. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that includes transportation, energy, communications, logistics, and industrial and urban areas.

Madbouly cited Egypt's experience in developing the New Alamein City as an example of creating a modern, integrated urban center that combines economic, service, and tourism activities. He also highlighted Egypt's efforts to develop a comprehensive network of roads, railways, ports, and logistics areas, as well as its plans to establish seven integrated logistics corridors.

The Prime Minister stressed that the security of development corridors is equally important as their development. He called for a collective approach to ensuring the security of these corridors, including coordination mechanisms, information sharing, and capacity building among countries.

Madbouly also mentioned several key projects, including the VICMED initiative, which aims to create a multimodal transportation system connecting Lake Victoria to the Mediterranean Sea, and Egypt's contributions to the development of integrated corridors within the PIDA framework.
