The Egyptian parliament has welcomed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Labor and "Talabat Misr", a food delivery company, to provide social and health protection for delivery workers. The protocol, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouli and Minister of Labor Hassan Raddad, aims to register delivery workers in a database of irregular workers and provide them with social and health care.

The protocol is a response to a request for information submitted by a parliamentarian in February, highlighting the lack of legal and insurance protection for delivery workers. The Labor Committee of the House of Representatives discussed the request and recommended that the government prepare a comprehensive study to regulate the status of this category of workers.

The parliamentarian, Maha Abdel Nasser, praised the initiative of "Talabat Misr" and its partner companies to join the protocol, considering it a positive example of social responsibility for the private sector. She expressed hope that other platforms and companies operating in the field would follow suit.

Abdel Nasser pointed out that millions of young people working in the delivery sector face significant occupational risks, with most of them working without contracts or social and health insurance. She emphasized that providing a real insurance umbrella and protection for them is a social necessity.

The protocol is considered a starting point, but it needs to be expanded to include all similar platforms and workers, as well as developing a comprehensive insurance and social protection system. Abdel Nasser stressed the need for a speedy and effective response to protect these young people and their families.

The parliamentarian vowed to continue her oversight role to monitor the implementation of the protocol and track the number of workers registered and benefiting from its services. She also announced that she would follow up on the study recommended by the Labor Committee.

The cooperation protocol is expected to improve the working conditions of delivery workers in Egypt, who often work in precarious conditions without adequate protection. The move is seen as a step towards providing a safer and more secure working environment for this growing category of workers.
