The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation has reported significant efforts in the first half of September, including the removal of 52 encroachments on agricultural land and state properties. These efforts aim to protect the country's agricultural resources and promote sustainable land use. According to Dr. Naguib Fouzi, head of the Land Reclamation Sector, these activities are part of a broader strategy to enhance services for farmers across various governorates.
The removal of encroachments resulted in the reclamation of approximately 5529 square meters of land. In addition to these efforts, the ministry investigated 79 spatial variable points and 38 variable codes within the scope of the Halam and Matruh centers. These investigations were conducted in collaboration with local authorities, and necessary legal actions were taken. The ministry's efforts focus on maintaining the integrity of agricultural land and state properties.
The ministry has also undertaken significant work in cleaning and maintaining irrigation infrastructure. In coordination with irrigation engineers, 18 branch and private watercourses were cleared, totaling 24,400 meters. Furthermore, 13 drains were cleaned, covering 15,500 meters, in areas under the supervision of the North Lake and El-Fayoum and Kafr El-Sheikh regions. These activities ensure efficient water distribution and support agricultural productivity.
In addition to infrastructure maintenance, the ministry has intensified its advisory and extension services. A total of 60 advisory and field activities were conducted, focusing on enhancing crop yields and preparing for the winter season. These activities included 15 workshops addressing various agricultural topics, such as modern methods for citrus cultivation, potato farming, and optimal fertilization for summer crops.
The advisory services also covered topics like pest control for corn and modern irrigation techniques for rice. Moreover, 20 field days and 25 field tours were organized in the Dakahlia and West Nubaria regions, focusing on crops like citrus, mango, tomatoes, eggplant, and pepper. These activities aim to educate farmers on best practices and improve crop quality.
As the winter season approaches, the ministry is preparing farmers for the upcoming harvest and advising on optimal cultivation practices for winter crops, particularly sugarcane and fava beans. The ministry is also promoting safe disposal methods for rice straw. Furthermore, efforts are underway to review and refine agricultural data, ensuring the accuracy of information on the "Farmer's Card" system.
The ministry continues to collaborate with various stakeholders, including local associations and international partners. A recent visit by the Dutch agricultural attaché to the "Isra' and Mi'raj" village explored opportunities for developing contractual citrus cultivation between Dutch companies and local farmers. These collaborations aim to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable practices in Egypt.
