Egyptian Minister of Water Resources, Hani Suwelim, held a meeting with members of the Executive Secretariat for Cairo Water Week to monitor preparations for the 9th edition of the event. Scheduled to take place from October 25-29, 2026, the event will be held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The theme of this year's event is "Water as a Catalyst for Peace, Common Prosperity, and a Sustainable Planet."
Minister Suwelim reviewed the status of international participation in the event, with 11 ministers and a special envoy, 4 deputy ministers or heads of delegations, and several heads and representatives of international and regional organizations, research institutions, and academic bodies confirming their participation. The event is expected to feature a wide range of sessions, including a preparatory session for the 2026 United Nations Water Conference.
The 9th Cairo Water Week will include a scientific conference with several high-level sessions, including one on green water and another on capacity building in Africa and the Arab region, organized by UNESCO. The event will also feature an international symposium on water security, co-organized with the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources and the World Water Council.
In addition to the main event, several parallel activities will be held, including the 7th Arab Water Conference, which will take place on October 26-27, 2026, under the theme "Water in the Arab Region: Partnerships for Sustainable Development and Peace." An international exhibition on water, sanitation, and infrastructure will also be held from October 26-28, 2026.
The scientific committee of the event has received 122 research abstracts, of which 104 were accepted after initial evaluation. Forty participants with extended abstracts and 26 with full research papers have qualified for the second stage of evaluation. The event has also partnered with the World Water Policy journal to publish high-quality research papers.
The event features several competitions aimed at supporting youth, researchers, and innovators, including the "Campaign on the Old," "Three-Minute Thesis," "Young Innovators in Water," "Best Practices for Water Conservation," and "Best Graduation Projects." An exhibition will also be held, with 16 booths booked by major Egyptian and international companies.
To facilitate participation, a digital platform has been developed for registration, allowing for applications for the scientific committee and competitions. A mobile app is also being developed to track session attendance and improve participant experience. The event aims to bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss water-related issues and promote sustainable development.
