Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, recently met with Hanan Majdi, Governor of New Valley, at the ministry's headquarters in the new capital. The meeting aimed to follow up on the implementation of various development projects in the governorate. They reviewed the progress of projects under the presidential initiative "Hayat Karima" (Decent Life), which focuses on improving living conditions in rural areas.
The meeting covered the implementation status of the first phase of the "Hayat Karima" initiative in Farafra Center, where 321 projects have been completed, achieving 100% implementation in vital sectors such as drinking water, sanitation, civil defense, and social solidarity services. Governor Majdi reported that the handover and actual operation of new service facilities and infrastructure are currently underway.
Dr. Manal Awad emphasized the importance of expediting the operation and delivery of completed projects, ensuring their readiness, and benefiting the local population in targeted villages. This aligns with the initiative's goal of improving services and enhancing the quality of life in Egyptian rural areas. The minister also reviewed the implementation status of the current investment plan for the 2026/2027 fiscal year.
The investment plan includes projects in various sectors such as electricity, roads, local administration, environmental improvement, urban and economic development, and local community services. Dr. Awad stressed the need for continuous monitoring of implementation rates and adherence to specified timelines. She also highlighted the importance of maximizing the benefits from investments included in the current plan.
The discussion also touched on efforts to support investment and maximize the utilization of New Valley's agricultural and economic potential. Governor Majdi presented indicators on agricultural investment, land allocation to investors, and future expansions. Additionally, they reviewed several ongoing industrial projects with the Saeed Development Agency.
These projects include date packaging and processing, a handicraft industrial complex in Merzouk village, land reclamation in Abu Turrtur, and agricultural waste recycling projects. Such initiatives aim to increase the added value of agricultural products, create job opportunities, and support the local economy. The meeting also covered the development of waste management systems and environmental services.
Dr. Awad and Governor Majdi discussed the progress in regularizing state-owned land ownership and the status of construction violation reconciliation files. They emphasized the importance of completing pending files, addressing citizen concerns, and achieving legal stability. The minister reaffirmed her commitment to providing support to New Valley and maintaining close coordination with local authorities.
