Egyptian Minister of Housing Randa El-Menashy chaired a meeting of the New Urban Communities Authority's board of directors on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The meeting was attended by Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for Urban Communities, and Eng. Ahmed Emran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities. Discussions focused on monitoring the progress of various projects and exploring new initiatives to enhance the role of new cities in driving economic and social development.
During the meeting, El-Menashy emphasized the crucial role of the New Urban Communities Authority in implementing Egypt's vision for the new republic. The authority has achieved significant milestones in urban development over the years, including the expansion of new cities, development of basic infrastructure, and implementation of housing projects for various segments of society. These efforts aim to maximize the contribution of the real estate sector to supporting the national economy in line with Egypt 2030 vision.
The meeting reviewed the progress of applications for 10,000 housing units offered through a rent-to-own system. The application process, which is available on the "Maskan" website, will continue until October 19, 2026. The offer includes 5,000 completed housing units ready for delivery and 5,000 units to be built over the next three years. The housing units are available in various sizes to cater to different segments of society.
El-Menashy stressed the importance of achieving the goals of the rent-to-own program, which aims to provide diverse housing solutions for different segments of citizens. The program allows tenants to benefit from housing units in exchange for periodic rental payments, with the option to own the units at the end of the contract period. The minister reviewed the number of citizens who have registered on the website, completed initial bookings, and paid the initial deposit.
According to the data presented during the meeting, 171,798 citizens have registered on the website, 37,988 have completed their initial bookings, and 21,777 have paid the initial deposit. These numbers reflect the positive response to the program and its significance in supporting the state's efforts to provide suitable and diverse housing for citizens in new cities.
The meeting also approved the final accounts of the New Urban Communities Authority for the fiscal year 2025/2026, which showed a financial surplus directed towards financing national projects. This supports the state's efforts to implement urban development plans, improve infrastructure, and provide services in new cities.
