Dr. Abdel Aziz Kansoua, the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Acting Minister of Culture, recently visited Minya University to open the sports city and inspect several new university and medical facilities. The visit was attended by the Governor of Minya, Brigadier General Emad Kadwani, and Dr. Essam Farhat, President of Minya University. The total cost of the projects inspected was EGP 11.31 billion. The projects aim to improve educational and medical services at the university.
The sports city at Minya University was opened on an area of 22,000 square meters and features several sports facilities, including a football field, a tartan track, and multi-purpose courts. The project cost EGP 100 million. The sports city also includes a fully equipped gym, changing rooms, and a fitness center. The facilities are expected to provide students with a comprehensive sports experience and promote physical activity.
Dr. Kansoua also inspected the Internal Medicine and Surgery Hospital at Minya University, which was built on an area of 33,000 square meters and has a capacity of 430 beds. The hospital features the largest operating theater complex in northern Egypt, with 11 operating theaters, as well as specialized units for physical therapy, rehabilitation, and treatment of various diseases. The hospital cost EGP 6.45 billion to build.
The Minister also visited the Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry Hospital, which covers an area of 7,200 square meters and has 124 beds. The hospital features a central blood bank and a unit for cerebral catheterization and neurological interventions. The project cost EGP 1.86 billion. The hospital aims to provide specialized medical services to patients with neurological disorders.
Another facility inspected was the Minya University Oncology Hospital, which is the largest university hospital for cancer treatment in the region. The hospital was built on an area of 15,000 square meters and has 150 beds. It features a large chemotherapy unit, a cancer surgery department with three operating theaters, and a radiation therapy unit. The hospital cost EGP 2.25 billion to build.
Dr. Kansoua also visited the Ophthalmology Hospital at Minya University, which was built on an area of 2,500 square meters and has a capacity of 50 beds. The hospital features three operating theaters, six external and specialized clinics, and units for pediatric ophthalmology and eye diseases. The hospital cost EGP 750 million to build. The hospital aims to provide specialized eye care services to patients.
The Minister emphasized that the Egyptian government is committed to developing public universities as a key aspect of human development and supporting national growth. He praised the projects implemented by Minya University, which will improve infrastructure and services for students and residents of the governorate. The projects inspected during the visit aim to enhance the quality of education, medical services, and research at the university.
