Dr. Manal Awad, the Egyptian Minister of Local Development and Environment, recently met with Hanan Majdi, the Governor of New Valley Governorate, in the new capital. The meeting aimed to follow up on development and service projects in the governorate, their implementation rates, and improving services for citizens. The meeting covered the implementation status of the first phase of the "Hayat Karima" initiative in Farafra Center, with 321 projects completed, achieving 100% implementation in vital sectors. Governor Hanan Majdi mentioned that the handover and actual operation of new service facilities, especially in water, sanitation, civil protection, and social solidarity, are underway. The governorate is also focusing on regular maintenance to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of services provided to citizens.
Dr. Manal Awad emphasized the importance of quickly operationalizing and delivering completed projects, ensuring they benefit the targeted villages and achieve the initiative's goals. The minister and the governor also reviewed the implementation status of investment plan projects for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, focusing on electricity, roads, local administration, environmental improvement, and economic development.
The discussion included the governorate's efforts to inventory assets and lands, particularly those with tourism and environmental potential, to maximize their use and offer them as investment opportunities. This aims to support the governorate's resources, attract new investments, and create job opportunities for young people. The meeting also touched on developing the waste management system and improving environmental services.
Dr. Awad and Governor Majdi reviewed the progress in regularizing state-owned lands, examining submitted requests, and accelerating the examination and completion of valid applications. The minister stressed the importance of completing remaining files, addressing citizen concerns, and ensuring legal stability and optimal use of state lands.
The meeting also covered the status of construction violation reconciliation, reviewing submitted requests and procedures to facilitate and expedite file completion. The minister emphasized the need for continued accurate monitoring of specialized committees' work, simplifying procedures for citizens, and maintaining communication to obtain required documents.
The minister concluded by affirming her ministry's commitment to providing full support to New Valley Governorate, maintaining coordination with local executive bodies to drive development and service project implementation. This aims to maximize the use of the governorate's unique advantages in various sectors, supporting comprehensive and sustainable development and improving citizens' living standards.
