On Sunday, October 11, 2026, Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Environment, and Hanen Magdy, Governor of New Valley, conducted an inspection of the regional transport hub in the city of Kharga. The project aims to develop the regional transport system, improve passenger services, and regulate vehicle traffic. The project has an estimated cost of 30 million EGP and will have a capacity for 153 microbuses and 7 buses.

The project covers an area of 9,316.5 square meters and includes 8 canopies for microbuses, 2 canopies for buses, 5 entrances, and 4 exits. Additionally, the project features 4 waiting areas, each with 30 seats, 2 restrooms, and a prayer area with special restrooms. The minister and governor were accompanied by Mohamed Kgek, Deputy Governor, Adly Abou Aqil, General Secretary of the Governorate, and Jehad Metwally, Head of Kharga Center.

Dr. Manal Awad emphasized that the project will improve traffic flow and enhance services for citizens. She also stressed the importance of completing the project on time and meeting the required quality standards. The state is prioritizing infrastructure development and improving services in border governorates to facilitate citizens' daily movements and attract investments.

Governor Hanen Magdy stated that the transport hub will offer various commercial and operational services, including 4 ticket booths for buses, 8 ticket booths on the outer fence, and 2 cafes. The hub will also provide 50 parking sites for cars outside the facility, contributing to traffic organization and reducing congestion on surrounding roads.

The minister and governor also inspected the implementation of a plan to pave and upgrade internal roads and residential areas in the governorate using interlocking pavement blocks. The project aims to improve the efficiency of the internal road network, facilitate citizens' movement, and enhance the urban appearance of residential areas.

The paving project, part of the 2026-2027 investment plan, targets approximately 20,000 square meters in the Al-Mujahideen neighborhood in Kharga. The work involves preparation, leveling, and adjustment of levels, followed by the implementation of foundation layers, sub-base layers, and interlocking pavement blocks.

Governor Hanen Magdy mentioned that the governorate started implementing the internal road paving plan in 2024 and has expanded the work to various centers. The current projects aim to cover around 37,000 square meters of internal roads in the cities of Dakhla, Kharga, and Paris.
